STARTING POSITIONS FOR REGULAR CLUB RACES

As each car signs in at the track, the driver (or a representative of the driver) randomly picks a “pill” from a bag containing pills numbered from one to 100. This blind pill draw is the sole basis for the line-up of the heats. (Club members have no preference over visiting competitors in starting positions.)
Depending on the total number of cars present CDCRA officials will decide how many heats there will be, how many cars will transfer directly from each heat to the A-Main, whether there will be a B-Main, etc.
Heats
Starting positions in heats are determined by the pill draw, with the lowest numbered pill holder starting on the pole of the 1st heat; the next lowest number starting on pole of the 2nd heat, and so forth. The only exception is that all drivers required to run a rookie flag will be started in the back regardless of the pill they picked.
Example: The five lowest numbers picked on a given night are: 3, 8, 13, 17, and 22.
Officials have decided there are going to be four heats. The driver who picked pill 3 will start on the pole in the 1st heat. Pill holders 8, 13, and 17 will start in pole position in heats two, three and four, respectively. Holder of pill 22 will start outside front row of the 1st heat.
B-Main or other qualifying races (if required)
Each driver who does not earn a transfer position in his heat will be assigned a starting position in a B-Main (or C-Main, etc, as required) based on his finishing position in the heat, and on the number of the heat he was in.
Example: There are twenty seven cars at the track. Six cars have transferred from each of three heats to the main. The nine remaining cars will make up a B-main. The 7th place car from the first heat will start on the pole; the 7th place car from the second heat will start outside front row; the 7th place car from the third heat will start inside row two; the 8th place car from the first heat will start outside row two, and so on.
The same basic rule applies if there needs to be a C-Main, etc.
Any car that has a different driver than the one who drove it in the heat will be cycled to the back, and all the cars that would have been behind him will advance one position.
Any car that did not start a heat will be positioned behind all the cars that ran a heat, with the exception of rookies required to run a rookie flag.
All drivers required to run a rookie flag will start at the back of the field in an order to be determined by the officials.
A-Main
The line-up of the A-Main is a two step process. First, a provisional line-up is compiled with the cars transferring directly from the heats positioned according to their finishing positions and number of the heat they were in (i.e. the winner of the 1st heat is on the provisional pole, the winner of the 2nd heat is on the outside of the front row, the winner of the 3rd heat is inside row two, and so on).
Secondly, the winner of the 1st heat randomly picks one of eight pills. The pills are numbered 1 through 8.
The number he picks will determine how many positions will be inverted. If he picks #1 there will be no inversion. If he picks #5, the first 5 positions will be inverted—the car provisionally on the pole now starts 5th, and the 5th place car is on the pole— and so forth, to a maximum inversion is 8 positions. The remainder of the field is unchanged.
The cars transferring from the B-Main line up behind them in order of their finishing position in the B-Main, except rookies required run a rookie flag, who will start at the back.
Note: The foregoing is predicated on running the Pro class and the Vet class together. If the car count is large enough to run the classes separately, the pill draw will be separated out by class, and the foregoing procedure will be used to line up each class.
